On Friday 1st October, the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) moved to Industry-Specific Secretary Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for State Significant Development (SSD) applications. This means a streamlined process for any SSD applications, where DPIE will review the proposed SSD and provide a response to the applicant within 7 days outlining their requirements to proceed to the SSD submission. Industry Specific SEARs are particularly relevant to many of our clients as they cover development such as; warehouses and distribution centres; hospitals, medical centres and health research facilities; schools; tertiary institutions; convention and exhibition centres; hotels; build-to-rent housing and data storage centres. We are currently working with a number of clients on submitting under the new Industry Specific SEARs and look forward to working with DPIE as they continue to roll out their new Rapid Assessment Framework
