Willowtree Planning recognises that respectful relationships and partnerships with the Custodians of the land involves an understanding and respect for cultural protocols. It was a great honour to be a part of the Smoking Ceremony on the site for Sydney Science Park led by Uncle Greg Simms, a well known and respected Aboriginal Elder.
This is an important milestone for this one-of-a-kind project and a big shout out to our client, Celestino for being sincere towards ‘Recognising Country’ and collaborating with Cola Studios, Djinjama and Jiwah to procure a ‘Indigenous Design Strategy’ for Sydney Science Park.
The ‘Reading of Country’ presented by Dr Danièle Hromek and her colleagues provided an understanding of the obligations-built environment professionals have, as a design community, to respond to Aboriginal culture and heritage, responsibly, appropriately and respectfully. Most importantly, it was an effective way to share knowledge and work together collectively with open minds to unite our complementary knowledge.
Willowtree Planning haven been involved in this landmark project since the original master plan was approved and look forward to working together with the project team on the delivery of this
exciting project!
