The Draft Hunter Regional Plan 2041 unveils a new vision of Newcastle and the Hunter.

In the early hours of the 1st December, the draft Hunter Regional Plan 2041 was put up for exhibition and public comment by NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. The Plan provides a 20-year strategic planning blueprint for the Hunter Region in pursuit of eight key objectives:

1) Diversify the Hunter’s mining and industrial capacity;
2) Ensure economic self-determination for Aboriginal communities;
3) Create a 15 minute region made up of mixed, multi-modal , inclusive and vibrant local communities;
4) Plan for ‘Nimble Neighbourhoods’, diverse housing and sequenced development;
5) Increase green infrastructure and quality public spaces, and improve the natural environment;
6) Reach net zero and increase resilience and sustainable infrastructure;
7) Plan for businesses and services at the heart of healthy, prosperous and innovative communities
8) Build an interconnected and globally focused Hunter.

The draft Hunter Regional Plan will remain on exhibition from the 1st December, 2021, until the 4th March, 2022.
